The eHI LIGHT Initiative has commitment to providing an accessible inventory of HIT-related efforts for countries throughout the globe and disseminating the results of its international dialogue as widely as possible.  The goal? Better healthcare worldwide through HIT.

Many useful facts and themes have already emerged as a result of the eHI LIGHT Initiative's activities and its two international summits, the Inaugural LIGHT International Summit held May 14-15, 2004 in Geneva, Switzerland and the Second LIGHT International Summit meeting held on October 20, 2004 in Washington D.C.

Leaders from 16 nations attended the Inaugural Summit and shared an overview of health information technology (HIT) and infrastructure in their home countries and key challenges they encountered.  Click here for a summit overview and index of downloadable presentations.

The Second International LIGHT Summit focused specifically on new and executable ideas around the use of HIT in global HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment efforts.  Click here for a summit overview and index of available presentations.

These summit meetings involved senior level healthcare leaders from both the public and private sectors of industrialized and developing nations.  Common areas of interest discussed were:

  • Leadership
  • Funding and Financial Incentives to Support Sustainability
  • Technical Issues, including Architecture, Applications, Standards and Security
  • Organizational and Clinical Process Change
  • Engagement of Citizens and Consumers

Both summit meetings were successful in promoting international dialogue and enabling nations to learn from each other’s experiences.
